Skysoft’s digital music subsidiary Kkbox has reached an investment deal with Taiwanese communications provider Chunghwa Telecom. Chunghwa will buy a 30 percent stake in Kkbox for an undisclosed amount. Kkbox was launched in January 2005 and mixes a music download service with social networking features. The company offers content from over 140 music labels with some 1.5 million songs. At the end of July this year the company had 300,000 paying subscribers and 3.5 million registered users. With Chunghwa’s investment, Kkbox plans to launch new business models by extending its services from the PC platform to mobile phones and digital home appliances.
