The Apple-mad folks at ThinkSecret, who have successfully predicted many top-secret Apple plans over the years, say that Cingular Wireless will be the first carrier to offer the upcoming iPhone–a rumor which itself has not yet been confirmed. The operator reportedly has a six-month exclusive on the device, to be offered early next year.
Whether this is Apple’s way of making good for foisting the much-maligned ROKR on Cingular is unknown, nor is whether or not Steve Jobs will cut the legs out of Apple’s partners again by pulling another Nano out of his hat–if and when this deal ever gets announced. But it does say a lot about Cingular’s plans to offer a third-party branded music service rather than offering it’s own branded store ala Sprint and Verizon.
