The CMT, Spanish telecommunications regulator, has decided to freeze users’ monthly cost for renting individual lines from Telefonica in 2009. The cost is the monthly amount which users pay for line maintenance. The connection rate for fixed lines will also remain the same. The move by the CMT is due to the small reduction in average costs incurred by Telefonica for offering phone rental service, at the same time as the company seeing a rise in average revenue per line. With the connection rate, the CMT believes that this service is in a state of maturity.
