Consumer group calls for further roaming tariff cuts

European consumer group BEUC is calling for significant reductions to mobile roaming tariffs, reports dpa news agency. Levi Nietvelt, tariff specialist at the organisation, told dpa that current prices are well above the actual cost to operators. Currently, operators pay EUR 0.10-EUR 0.14 per minute for mobile roaming. Based on new EU regulations, customers will pay a maximum of EUR 0.49 for outgoing and EUR 0.24 per minute for incoming calls. Nietvelt believes these costs are still too high for consumers. He also expressed concern about high mobile data transmission costs, which put customers off using mobile internet services.
