Mobile operator Cosmote has failed to obtain a 3G licence in Romania. The company, which recently re-launched services and is quickly upgrading its 2G network in Romania, was not successful in the tender for 3G licences by the Romanian regulator. Cosmote said it will focus on continuing to expand its 2G coverage, expecting to soon cover the entire population with services. It will also launch i-mode services in Romania in 2007 over its 2.5G network.
