Mobile operator Cosmote added over 1 million new customers in the third quarter, to finish the period with a total 14.1 million. Given the strong subscriber growth Cosmote now expects to meet its target for 15 million subscribers within the next two quarters, ahead of an earlier target of 2009. The Greek company reported third-quarter revenues of EUR 825 million, up 39 percent from a year earlier, while EBITDA improved 13.4 percent to EUR 281.8 million. Net profit was down 15 percent to EUR 99.6 million, hurt by negative currency effects in Romania and higher interest and depreciation charges. Capex in the first nine months of the year was EUR 340 million, of which nearly half went to Romania. The retail chain Germanos contributed net profit of EUR 4 million and revenues of EUR 260.7 million in Q3 and was responsible for 540,000 of Cosmote’s subscriber additions in the period. Germanos targets 765 stores by year-end, versus 705 at the end of September.
