The first half of this year has confirmed the trend of increased use of mobile phones and fewer fixed network calls in Croatia. According to data from the State Statistics Bureau, 29 percent more minutes were spent on mobile networks in comparison to the same period last year, while the number of minutes spent on fixed networks was down 12 percent. In total, 3.93 billion minutes were spent on the fixed networks during the first six months of 2007, compared to 2.36 billion minutes on the mobile networks. Most of the traffic in fixed telephony was domestic (3.84 billion), while international calls totaled 94 million minutes. On the mobile networks, 97 percent of calls were for domestic traffic. The number of sent SMS messages grew 9.5 percent to 1.35 billion in the half, while MMS messages were up 28.3 percent to 8.95 million.
