Bharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. will start operations in the Eastern province within the next three months and will cater to the Northern province in the near future considering customer requirements.

President, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel, Atul Bindal said that the services could be provided cheaper if mobile service providers share towers.

Vodafone Ghana lays off 950 workers

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Nearly 950 workers will be laid off as a part of Vodafone Ghana’s compulsory redundancy programme. The lay-off to be implemented at the end of November will affect all departments and could also lead to the closure of non-core departments.
Under the programme three month basic salary will be offered for each year served. According to Chief Manager for Corporate Communications, Isaac Abraham, the move is aimed at delivering better services to customers of the company.
He said the decision to lay off staff is part of a restructuring programme to be conducted in a a fair and transparent manner.”

The regulator reportedly said that in the case of dominant operator Telefonica, Vodafone and Orange the cut will be 40%, while the reduction will be 50% for Yoigo.

The operator will target international tourist as a key part of its sales strategy.
Chief commercial officer Bill McCabe says 2degrees has signed roaming agreements with over 150 international carriers.

A lot of networks have knocked on our door as previously they have only been able to get deals with Vodafone.”
The CCO has reportedly estimated that the market is worth $100 million a year, although it is anticipated that Vodafone at present is charging premium rates as before the launch of Telecom’s XT network and 2degrees upcoming network, they had the monopoly in the market.

Japan’s second largest telecommunications company, KDDI has put into operation a Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) platform from Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world’s largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics. The Active EDW will serve as the data retrieval and analysis platform that KDDI uses to perform multi-faceted analyses of customer, rate and other related data from its mission-critical sales support and planning system.

The Active EDW replaces another vendor’s platform that has experienced performance deterioration as the number of users, data volume and query complexity has increased. Testing of the Teradata Active EDW platform demonstrated a seven-time increase in the average performance than the current data warehouse system, without requiring tuning. The Teradata installation enables KDDI to integrate the data on customers and usage, and other critical information gathered from a wide range of KDDI service operations, and to analyze that information to further improve customer service. The company said the rise profit for Q1 was boosted by lower procurement costs for its e-commerce business and by holding fewer handsets in storage compared with the amount sold.
