The Dutch mobile phone market grew 5% last year to €6.3 billion (US$9.8 billion), largely due to text message and Internet services, Dutch news agency ANP reported. The organisation expects the market to grow between 3% and 5% this year.

Dutch telecoms company KPN accounted for 48% of the market, followed by the T-Mobile-Orange combination with 25.3%.

Vodafone, the largest mobile telecommunications network company in the world, ranks third in the country with 20.9% of the market.

At the end of last year, there were some 19.3 million mobile phone connections in the Netherlands, although the country’s population is 16.4 million.
