Ericsson has unveiled the RBS 6000 series of next-generation radio base stations. The one-cabinet, temperature-controlled system supports GSM / EDGE, WCDMA / HSPA and LTE in a single package. The RBS 6000 series products are available in indoor, outdoor and main-remote packages. The design requires only 25 percent of the space used by previous generations and at the same time doubles capacity. The RBS 6000 series reduces power consumption by 20 to 65 percent compared with existing Ericsson radio base stations, the company claims. Commercial launch of the RBS 6000 series is set for 2008.
