Freedom4 has launched its commercial WiMAX service in Milton Keynes with the local group ConnectMK. Over 1,000 people have already registered interest in the wireless broadband service, the UK’s first major WiMAX deployment. A local outdoor marketing campaign has been launched highlighting some of the key aspects of WiMAX. Freedom4 is part of the Pipex group, while ConnectMK was set up by the local council to improve access to broadband services in the area. The residential WiMAX service is available starting at GBP 20 per month for a 1 Mbps connection and 10 GB data use. All plans are subject to a set-up fee of GBP 45 and one-year contract.
