The number of broadband subscribers in Japan went up to 26.44 million at the end of March, according to figures from the ministry of internal affairs and communications (MIC). The increase since the preceding quarter was 680,000. Of the total broadband users, 33 percent, or 8.80 million users, connect through FTTH. Some 53 percent, or 14.01 million uses DSL, 14 percent, or 3.61 million use CATV, and 0.04 percent, or 11,632 use FWA to connect to the internet. During the quarter, DSL lost 222,668 users while FTTH won 863,499 new subscribers. CATV added 42,550 new users and FWA added 52 new users during the quarter.
