www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The remaining 1.8% of Telefonica Argentina (TdA), the Argentine subsidiary of the Spanish telecoms group Telefonica, has been acquired by the company and the TdA’s shares have also been delisted.

The transaction was approved by Comision Nacional de Valores (CNV), Argentine securities regulator, in December 2009, after the Spanish group offered one Argentinean peso a shares or for the roughly 126 million shares of TdA it did not control the previous June.

A month earlier, Telefonica was called over by a minority shareholder at TdA to launch an offer for the remaining shares, highlighting that under Argentine law, companies must make a 100% offer once they control more than 95% of a company’s shares.

According to the Spanish group, it would offer one Argentinean peso a share – or its equivalent in US dollars – for the roughly 126 million shares of TdA it does not control. Presently, Telefonica owns 98.2% of its Argentina unit, whereas the remainder is in free float.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: NTT DOCOMO, INC. and Telefonica announced today that a Windows Mobile(R) handset model made by Toshiba Corporation will be introduced by both companies in their respective Japanese and Spanish markets in June to July as part of a plan for various joint undertakings by the two mobile operators.

The companies selected the full touch-panel model as an ideal offering for users seeking a versatile, stylish handset. DOCOMO will sell the handset in Japan as the docomo PRO series(TM) T-01A (officially announced on May 19) and Telefonica will sell it in Spain as the TG01.

DOCOMO and Telefonica are now considering various other initiatives to mutually strengthen corporate competitiveness and customer satisfaction in their respective markets, including a joint study of possible services and applications for open OS handsets.

Vodafone introduces HTC Magic in Spain

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Vodafone Spain has begun offering HTC Magic at a slightly higher price that in the UK. The device ranges from $25 to $264 depending on the tariff subscribers opt for and monthly tariffs vary from €21 to €62 (i.e $27 to $81) on an 18 months agreement.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Yoigo, the Spanish mobile operator has broadened its HSDPA mobile internet service offering to prepaid subscribers. From 6 May, the prepaid subscribers can opt for Yoigo’s Internet Para Llevar offering for EUR 3 per day and access speeds of up to 3.2 Mbps. The prepaid mobile internet subscribers will be able to make national calls and send SMS at a price of EUR 0.08/minute or per SMS.
The minimum monthly consumption has to be EUR 6. The new prepaid tariff will be available along with a EUR 20 prepaid card with EUR 20 available for voice and data traffic. The subscribers can also grab the card along with a Toshiba G450 or ZTE MF626 USB modem for EUR 49.

Telefonica reports a rise in Q3′08 revenues by 5.7% to $ 18.82 billion since ;ast year driven by continous growth in its mobile activities in Latin America. OIBDA fell 15.4% to $7.41 billion and net profits slipped to $2.51 billion, a fall of nearly 50%. driven by one-time gain in the year-earlier period for selling Endemol. Revenues in Latin America rose 14.5% to $7.26 billion, and Telefonica Spain’s revenues increased by 2% to $6.76 billion. Telefonica in Europe posted a 0.6% fall in sales to $4.63 billion. Telefonica subscriber base grew by 6.2 million in Q3′08 ending the quarter with 189 million mobile subscribers.
