Indian GSM operators added 5.60 million new subscribers in September, versus 5.95 million new customers in August, according to figures from the GSM representative body, the Cellular Operators’ Association of India. Bharti Airtel added 2.06 million new users, taking its total to 48.87 million. Vodafone Essar is in second place with 1.54 million new users, compared to 1.67 million in August, taking its total subscriber base to 35.65 million. State-owned operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) also witnessed slower growth, adding 598,804 new users, much lower than 725,392 in the previous month. However, it retained the third position in the market with a total subscriber base of 30.30 million.
