Mara Telecom selects NSN for 3G networkStart-up cellco Mara Telecom has signed an agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to design, build and operate a complete greenfield W-CDMA/HSPA network on the Pacific island. Within three years, the network is expected to serve up to 100,000 subscribers across the main islands of French Polynesia. Mara Telecom, the first cellco to be granted a 3G licence in French Polynesia, aims to be commercially operational by December 2008. Under the contract, NSN will provide Mara with a 3G end-to-end solution, including network equipment, applications and a full range of services, comprising network design, implementation, operation as well as training and competence transfer.
