The launch of Bhutan’s second national GSM operator could be delayed according to local press reports. Tashi Infocomm won its licence last year and had planned to launch its first services by end-2007. It now looks as though the company may not be able to launch until May 2008, however, as it has been unable to negotiate a deal with the current monopoly provider, B-Mobile, over shared use of infrastructure such as cell towers. B-Mobile claims it is unable to sign infrastructure sharing deals as its towers do not have the capacity to carry extra antennae, Kuensel Online reports. B-Mobile says it is happy to offer national roaming services. Under its licence Tashi Infocomm must launch a commercial service by April 2008, although the concession does not stipulate any coverage requirements.
