Portugal’s Competition Authority (AdC) has fined PT Comunicacoes EUR 38 million for abuse of its dominant market position. The fixed-line operator allegedly refused access to its network ducts to competitors TVtel and Cabovisao, who were prevented from cabling more than 73,000 households in Portugal. AdC claims that in those areas where there are access alternatives to PT’s infrastructure, prices are 20-30 percent cheaper compared to those where there is no alternative. PT called the decision “unfounded and unfair” and said it would appeal in court.
