The telco is talks over a strategic partnership to fund its 3G operations, CEO Supachai Chearavanont reportedly said. The names of the operators still remain undisclosed. The operator has set aside about THB 10 billion for 3G development, including the licence auction.

The three plans that True offers are:
The THB 499 plan – includes 30 MB of data, excluding Wi-Fi
The THB 599 plan – includes unlimited mobile data
The THB 899 plan – includes unlimited mobile data and unlimited data via W-Fi, as well as free on-net calls
All the plans come with voice calls to all networks at a flat rate of THB 1.25/minute, SMS for THB 1.25 and MMS for THB 5.

The price for the new handset will be revealed soon.

The English language guide is available from the App Store at a price of USD 9.99. The service will be launched in Thai language soon. True Move has so far has developed 19 applications for the Apple iPhone.

True Move, is also reportedly offering a new service charge platform for GPRS and Edge airtime by based on material downloaded at a price of THB 1 per minute. Adhiruth Thothaveesansuk, MD of True said the per-minute tariff base is expected to increase average data revenue/user by 10-15%, from THB 30 per user/month currently.
The new web portal will upgrade the subscribers for its GPRS and Edge services by 50% to a combined 3 million this year. Piroon Paireepairit, Director for Multimedia Business, said the company’s focus this year will be in convergence-led services including content, network and device convergence.
The web portal offers multimedia content, allowing users to access the group’s content services and others through GPRS, Edge, Wi-Fi and 3G systems. Services include mobile television, video streaming, song downloads, online games and financial transactions on mobile phones. The companies are on the verge of developing applications and contents for iPhones in the near future. True Move also has plans to offer TrueVisions pay-TV programmes on customers’ mobile phones sooner.
True Move Thailand, has intended to sell iPhone 3G in the country from 16 January 2009, which is considered to be a key driver for higher revenues in 2009.
With this deal, True Move becomes the first Thai operator to vend iPhone 3G. True Move will sell the 8GB model for a payment of $202 and monthly fees of $34.60. Customers are required to use True Move services for at least 24 months, the company statement said.
True Move, the Thai incumbent, intends to invest $0.23 billion for its network expansion in 2009 and the budget will be divided among its two networks 2G and 3G. The operator will spend $0.14 billion on 3G and $0.08 on its 2G network.
True expects a subscriber base of 14 million by 2008 end, seeing a growth of 2 million subscribers.

True Move, Thailand, plans to invest strongly in 3G mobile broadband to be launched Q2′09. According to the operator it wouldn’t cut down on the investment in its 3G networks development.
“We will be pinning our hopes on 3G mobile service as we see it as a great business opportunity to enhance our business model in convergence,” says CEO True Move, Supachai Chearavanont.
According to Supachai, the telco will maintain its targets for the number of new subscribers of between three to five million this year, and that the amount of investment in 2009 would be about the same as in 2008.
True Corp, Thailand denies the speculation doing rounds regarding it’s partnership with China Mobile which gave a sharp rise in it’s share price.
“The company would like to clarify that the rumours are purely speculation and that there is no truth in this matter,” True said in a statement.
True Corp’s shares rose by nearly 30%, with the rumours coming in. The rumours being that China Mobile, the world’s largest telecoms operator, and few other foriegn operators are keen to buy a stake in True group were circulated in the Thai marketbut were denied by the Thai operator.
True Move, Thailand’s third largest operator, also denies the buy back of it’s US bonds at a discounted price.
DTAC in the 3G race, reportedly, raises the planned number of 3G base transceiver stations from 1,200 to 2,800. DTAC presently hold a permission of rolling out 1200 UMTS BTSs, from NTC. It initially is using it’s 850MHz frequencies in Bangkok, Chon Buri and Phuket at an estimated cost of THB5 billion (USD150 million) and plans to double this budget.
According to DTAC CEO Tore Johnsen, one of three suppliers, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei Technologies, will be chosen as its main 3G equipment partner.
AIS has lately increased the planned size of it’s UMTS-900 network from 400 BTSs to 1,900, costing around THB6 billion; AIS subscribers in Bangkok expect commercial 3G services by the year end. All it awaits is the regulatory permission in order to deploy the additional 1,500 BTSs.
Thailand’s third operator, True Move, has planned a roll out of least 600 3G BTSs using 800MHz-850MHz spectrum, at a cost of over THB1 billion.
