The announcement was made after the governement last month announced the sale of a 75% stake in the telco in a bid to save it from collapse; the remaining 25% will be retained by the state.
The winner of the tender will receive its stake in Zamtel by January 2009, which will cost around USD200 million to capitalise the ailing operator.

TCIL would invite bids from global firms for the stake in Bharti Hexacom through a two-stage bidding process and would appoint advisers shortly, the government said in a statement.

Telenor has unveiled its intentions to raise its stakes in the firm to 74% earlier this year, but has been held up following investigations into the proposals by both the FIPB and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The operator is likely to launch some of its customised VAS services into India by the year-end. In fact, DeNa, DoCoMo’s VAS partner, is already planning to enter the Indian market.
Kunieda pointed out that competitors will surely catch up and launch a similar offering and so they have be innovative right through. We need to have a differentiation. Value Added Services will be important for Tata Docomo to provide that differentiation, he added.

“Zain would like to clarify that regarding what has been published in a local newspaper about negotiations between a major Asian group and shareholders, the executive management of the company is not aware of this subject, which is up to shareholders,” the firm said.
The biggest shareholders in Zain were in discussions with an Asian telecoms firm to sell a more than 40% stake in the firm, media reports.

The transfer is worth $3.1 billion in cash. With the transfer of stake TeliaSonera will hold a majority stake of 64.3% in the Turkish mobile operator.

This affirmation comes after calls from opposition parties that the state should rethink plans to sell a 75% stake in the operator, with Patriotic Front (PF) President Michael Sata claiming that the sale is not in the public interest. Sata said that the government should reconsider decreasing the level of holding it plans to divest, arguing that the sale will not help to recapitalise the telco, even if a 75% stake is sold.

Taiwan Mobile is likely to pay NT$500 million for a 20% stake in unprofitable Fitel, which is seeking NT$2.1 billion from several Taiwanese, Chinese and Japanese telecommunications operators.
Taiwan Mobile will then raise its stake by buying shares from other shareholders.
