Orange gets new finance director Oct. 10
ORANGE – After a vacancy of nearly two months, the town has hired a new director of finance.
First Selectman James Zeoli announced recently that Pamela Mangini, of Hamden, has been appointed director of finance and administration.
Mangini was hired to replace former finance director Olive Harbor, who was dismissed after almost two years on the job in August; town officials said Harbor “wasn’t the greatest fit” for the job.
Zeoli said that Mangini was selected from a pool of applicants after the town advertised for the position in local papers and on the Internet. Mangini’s 20 years of experience in financial and organizational management, said Zeoli, and her local connection – she’s from Woodbridge, and was educated in the Amity school system – earned her the job.
“(Mangini) currently works with a budget almost of comparative size to the town of Orange,” said Zeoli. “Those are the qualifications we looked at, and her years of municipal background work.”
“It was a lengthy process, and we had a pool of very well-qualified applicants,” he said.
Mangini will begin as director of finance on Oct. 10, and will work with the first selectman and the board of finance in creating the town budget, overseeing accounts, and logging expenditures. According to treasurer, and a former finance director, Al Chiarenzelli, Mangini will be making $75,000.
Mangini has a bachelor’s degree from Quinnipiac University, and is pursuing her master’s degree there, which she is expected to receive in May 2007.
As far as governmental management experience, Mangini has served as executive assistant to the mayor of Hamden, and as an administrative assistant to the chief of Hamden police.
Mangini has formerly served as the chairwoman of the Wallingford Board of Education, as a board member at Area Cooperative Education Services, and as a member of the Wintergreen Inter-district Magnet School Steering Committee.
In Orange, Mangini will work alongside Chiarenzelli, town accountants, Cheryl Serfilippi and Leda Keeney, and Assistant to the Finance Director, Audrey Greer.
Mangini could not be reached for comment, but, according to Zeoli, she lives in Hamden with her husband and daughter, Melissa.
“I’m looking forward to a good working relationship, and making her a part of a strong financial team for the best for Orange,” said Zeoli.
