Iplan, a corporate communications provider offering telephony, data and internet access services in Argentina, says it expects to see revenues rising to ARS160 million (USD52.4 million) this year, up from ARS132 million in 2006, writes BNamericas quoting the company’s operators and carriers director Franco Cecchini. Iplan ended December 2006 with almost 10,000 clients, primarily in the SME segment, and hopes to increase this to 12,500 by the end of 2007. Having rolled out 60,000 telephony lines in the country, it recently announced plans to increase its national coverage through the deployment of interconnection points in 23 cities Neuqu©n, Pilar, Luj¡n, San Juan, San Luis, Tandil, Villa Mercedes, Glew, Arg¼ello, Carlos Paz, Ro Cuarto, Tucum¡n, Salta, San Lorenzo, Santa Fe, Paran¡, Corrientes, Resistencia, San Nicol¡s, San Pedro, Z¡rate, Campana and Escobar where it now plans to launch services.

Until now Iplan has concentrated its efforts on building a base in the capital Buenos Aires, as well as Rosario, C³rdoba and La Plata, and in 2006 it expanded to Mar del Plata, Mendoza and Baha Blanca. Cecchini told BNamericas that voice services currently account for nearly 60% of revenues while sales from its internet access business generated a further 30% and data centre services the remainder. Iplan also provides voice telephony and broadband access to residential clients, though the consumer segment is not considered a core part of its strategy. This could change, however, if regulations are altered to allow it to offer triple-play, the director said. Iplan’s competition in the Argentinean corporate segment comes from Impsat, Comsat and Telmex.
