Tuenti offers mobile app for Android (Spain)
Tuenti has introduced a mobile application for Android-powered devices.
The Android app works in the background, enabling users to set the type of notifications they want to receive, and the length of time for them to appear in push mode, as well as skip the real-time chat notifications.
According to Miguel Lara, Tuenti lead mobile engineer, the Photos section has been redesigned, and the Android app now features the Tuenti Sitios service as a separate category.
Simyo rolls-out Mein Simyo App 1.1 (Germany)
MVNO Simyo has introduced a new version of the Mein Simyo App, which will first be available for users of Android enabled smartphones, while the version for iPhones is currently under review by Apple.
The app offers additional features including automatic password storage, inclusion of names with the corresponding phone numbers in the adres book, sortable connection overview and the possibility to order Simyo’s data tariffs Flat Internet Minimum and Flat Internet
Austrian mobile users intensively use cost control apps
Austrian mobile lobby organisation FMK has announced that the country’s mobile phone customers are intensively using cost control features offered by their service providers.
The group claims that cost control apps offered are accessed around 70,000 times a day by customers. Customers can view their data usage on the websites of operators, or via phone or text.
New Onavo launches new iPhone app (US)
New Onavo has introduced a new iPhone app for users to regain control of their data usage and save on data charges.
The app helps users save money by compressing the iPhone’s data usage. Once installed, users can go back to using their device as normal. In the background, data usage from all apps is compressed, allowing users to get more from their existing data plan.
The app is available to download now from the App Store in all countries. It also shows a breakdown of each app and its data usage, allowing users to see which apps are costing them money.
DenizBank chooses Mobinex to develop mobile banking apps (Turkey)
DenizBank has chosen mobile applications provider Mobinex’s Smartface Platform to develop mobile banking applications.
As per the arrangement made between Mobinex and DenizBank, Smartface Platform will be used to develop ‘DenizBank SifreTek’ application that generates one-time password for log in process in internet and mobile banking transactions.
Smartface Platform will provide coverage over different devices. By Vasco powered Smartface Platform, DenizBank will able to manage all steps of developing mobile banking systems.
Memonic launches Android app (Switzerland)
Memonic has introduced its first Android app. This sorts users’ content into an online notebook and was designed based on feedback from existing users.
It aims to reduce planning time by giving users full access to their Memonic account while on the move. Once synchronised, users can check their account offline without incurring roaming charges.
The app has various features such as a ‘Read It Later” function that allows users to save a website from their mobile phone to be read later; and an offline mode to keep images offline and save on roaming fees while travelling.
Zappos.com expands mobile line-up with launch of Android Shopping App
Zappos.com, a leading destination in online apparel and footwear sales, announced the long-awaited launch of the Zappos mobile application for Android. This first version of the Android Mobile app puts Zappos in the marketplace with a core shopping experience. The Android app joins the iPad and iPhone in the Zappos app line-up, to complete the range of mobile offerings for the Zappos consumer. All apps are continually updated to offer an optimal user experience.

Zappos.com customers also have full access to their existing account information including stored payment types, shipping addresses, favorites and order history.
Mobile app stores $3.8 billion biz in 2011
A recent research report has shown that the apps people buy on their mobile phones continue to bring in big business, and there are few signs of it slowing down.
As per the report, revenue from app stores owned by Apple, Google, Nokia, and Research In Motion is set to grow 77.7 percent, reaching $3.8 billion by the end of the year and eventually rising to $8.3 billion in 2014. By comparison, 2010′s mobile app store combined revenues stood at $2.1 billion, up from $830.6 million in 2009.
According to researcher, with consumers continuing to show robust, unflagging interest in downloading games and other applications to devices like smart phones and tablets, collective revenues from the four stores will climb sharply this year.
Apple as the frontrunner among the four companies, pulling in $2.91 billion in revenue from the App Store by the end of the year and the company calls it a gargantuan three-quarters share of the total market.
Vodafone Greece launches mobile apps with SingularLogic
Vodafone Greece has partnered with Greek IT company SingularLogic to launch a new suite of applications from SingularLogic which are aimed at businesses of all sizes.
As per the offer, three applications which work on smartphones, tablets, and netbooks are available to businesses with wireless access services from Vodafone Greece, namely moRE info, moRE CRM, and moRE Sales.
These applications allows access to information systems throughout the organisation, improving major business processes such as the transmission of orders, inventory control, customer relationship management (CRM) and technical support (Field service).
moRE info works with Blackberry, Android and Windows Mobile (6.0 & 6.5), moRE CRM is compatible with Blackberry, while moRE Sales was designed for devices running Windows Mobile (6.0 & 6.5).
Skyhook adds Core Engine into Mapquest Android app (US)
Skyhook has added its Core Engine into the AOL company MapQuest’s Android application to deliver enhanced navigation services on phones.
MapQuest for Android provides feature, including voice guidance / turn-by-turn navigation, voice search, map toolbar, walking directions and live traffic flow information, and requires no subscription or download fees.
With the addition of Skyhook’s patented hybrid location system, MapQuest’s Android application extends its navigation available on smartphones.
