Filipino telco BayanTel petitions court to ditch Extelcom’s rehab plan
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The supreme court of Philippines has been requested by Bayan Telecommunications Inc (BayanTel) to shelve court-imposed rehabilitation plan for troubled domestic operator Express Telecommunications Company (Extelcom).
106-page petition has been submitted by BayanTel and its partner Marifil Holdings Corp arguing that their proposed rehabilitation plan would enable Extelcom to generate cumulative revenue of PHP1.8 billion over ten years.
BayanTel, has claimed that it is a perfect commercial partner for Extelcom because of its sufficient capital and technical expertise in wireless communications service besides offering to share its provincial wireless local loop revenues and its EBITDA from roaming service for foreign visitors with Extelcom in exchange for the use of the latter’s frequencies in the 800MHz band.
Bayan deploys first Convergent Voice SMS in Philippines

Subscribers of Bayan, one of the leading telecommunications service providers in Philippines, can send the message by voice, without taking the extra burden of typing the message. This will help them to communicate in a faster and in an easier way.
The voice SMS will cost PHP 1.50 (approximately USD 0.03) for sending them to both on-net and off-net subscribers within Philippines. To use the service, the wireless landline subscribers has to dial ‘*’ followed by the area code and the number of the person and speak a short message for 30 seconds in any language. BayanPHONE subscribers, on the other hand, will dial ’990+Area code+Tel number.
*0* is dialed to hear a new Voice SMS and *1* is dialed to retrieve the old SMS. PHP 1.50/msg will be charged for reply and forwards. Subscribers of other carriers in Philippines can dial 02-412-9621 to use the Bayan Voice SMS service. Standard call charges will apply.
