Forbes writes…Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said in a statement that it has signed a contract with Bayanat Al-Oula to supply a mobile WiMAX network in Saudi Arabia.

Under the agreement, Samsung Electronics will provide WiMAX equipment and devices to Bayanat Al-Oula over a two year period, starting this year.

It said the deal will the largest ever Mobile WiMAX deployment in the Middle East.

Samsung Electronics said Bayanat Al-Oula plans to launch commercial services using the technology this year in four major cities–Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Makkah. Services will then be expanded nationwide.

‘Mobile WiMAX is the ideal solution for establishing broadband data and voice communication into the Middle East, overcoming the region’s geographical challenges,’ the statement said.

Samsung Electronics said it is now engaged in mobile WiMAX techonology-related deals with 35 companies in 23 countries.
