Alltel Adds TeleNav Navigation Service
Alltel Wireless wants to make sure its customers are always pointing in the right direction. With this hope in mind, the carrier is launching the TeleNav GPS Navigator service on select devices.
The TeleNav GPS Navigator is a mapping service designed to give users a 3-D bird’s eye view of moving maps, voice and on-screen directions, says Alltel. The service also offers information and directions to more than 10 million business listings — including gas prices and Wi-Fi hot spots. Customers who need directions while on foot can switch to pedestrian mode for use while walking.
Alltel is offering the TeleNav service on two devices at launch, the BlackBerry 8703e from Research In Motion and the Alltel Samsung TeleNav GPS Navigator handset. The BlackBerry 8703e can be had for $249.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a 2-year signed service agreement.
Interested customers can access the TelNav GPS Navigator service for an additional $9.99 per month, which enables unlimited use. Customers who have the Samsung device also have the option of signing up for a daily pass at $2.99 per day.
Alltel is not alone in offering the TeleNav GPS application. Cingular Wireless and SouthernLINC Wireless are among the other carriers that feature the service.
