Virgin Mobile to launch MVNO services in Chile in 2012 (Latin America)

Virgin Mobile, an innovative wireless service provider, plans to launch mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services in Chile in Latin America by early 2012. As per reports, the company will use Movistar’s (Telefonica) network and has signed an agreement for the same. The company, which begins its MVNO services in Chile, plans to expand its services in Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Colombia and Mexico. The company aims to target the youth consumers by positioning itself as a fresh alternative to existing wireless providers.

As per sources, Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin, has said that they are very excited about what they have achieved in their first commercial operation in Chile. He added that this is a very interesting project for Virgin and they believe that all Virgin Mobile Chile clients will be very satisfied with the services they will offer with this launch. Further, Claudio Muñoz, Executive President, Movistar has said they are convinced that this agreement will make the telecommunications market grow in Chile. The fact that Virgin Mobile will start operating as a new mobile operator shows that this type of business is likely between companies.

 

NuevaTel PCS launches free handset promotion for Tarija cutomers (Bolivia)

NuevaTel PCS has introduced a promotion for new Cuenta Controlada tariff plan subscribers.

As part of the promotion, new subscribers to Cuenta Controlada 140, 190 and 260 tariff plans will receive a Motorola EM 25, LG T310 or Nokia 5233 mobile phone, respectively, free of charge. The promotion runs until 30 April and targets new subscribers in the department of Tarija.

 

NuevaTel PCS launches top-up bonus (Bolivia)

NuevaTel PCS has launched a top-up promotion for its prepaid customers. Users who recharge their mobile account by US$1.42 or more will receive a bonus of US$0.71.

The bonus can be used for national and international calls, as well as national SMS and value-added services. The promotion runs until 30 April.

Plextek supports Iceni’s m-payments platform (UK)

Plextek is supporting Cambridge-based secure mobile payments start up Iceni Mobile.

Plextek is working with Iceni Mobile since 2008, contributing ongoing financial backing along with technical and commercial consultancy to support the development and deployment of its secure mobile payments platform Identity to Service (I2S).

Iceni Mobile was formed from the team that created and ran Vodafone’s mobile payments service M-Pesa. Iceni offers the I2S platform as a white label service which is then supported by fully managed technology and business operations.

From the foundation of Plextek’s early stage support, Iceni has secured an investment from the MIH Group (part of multinational media group Naspers).

MIH has provided series A and B funding, strategic management support and will assist Iceni in gaining access to the Naspers group’s emerging market footprint. Iceni is currently rolling out its first two commercial deployments in Columbia and Bolivia. A further four deployments are also planned in the next six months.

NuevaTel PCS introduces iPhone 4 promotion (Bolivia)

NuevaTel PCS has rolled out a promotion dubbed ‘iPhone 4′.

Customers who subscribe to the operator’s unlimited mobile internet postpaid service will receive a discount of US$42.36 on the purchase of  iPhone 4.

The company’s unlimited mobile internet service is available for a monthly fee of US$36.66. The offer targets customers who also activate or extend their existing NuevatelPCS postpaid voice plan. The promotion runs until 30th April.

 

NuevaTel PCS introduces discounts on iPad 3G purchases (Bolivia)

NuevaTel PCS has come up with a promotion dubbed ‘iPad US$599′. Customers who subscribe to the operator’s ‘Cuenta Controlada para USB’ postpaid tariff plan will be able to buy the iPad 3G 16 GB for US$599.

The Cuenta Controlada para USB includes five tariff variants with monthly fees ranging between BOB 98 and BOB 320. The promotion runs until 30th April.

NuevaTel PCS has expended its promotion for Blackberry users until  April 30th.

The campaign targets new subscribers to the Blackberry Ejecutivo Plus and Blackberry Juvenil Plus tariff plans.

 

NuevaTel PCS launches promotion for ‘Cuenta Controlada 260′ subscribers (Bolivia)

NuevaTel PCS has launched a promotion for new ‘Cuenta Controlada 260′ tariff plan subscribers, who also activate the ‘Datos Viva 100′ service.

Under the promotion, these customers will receive a ZTE X850 mobile phone free of charge. The Cuenta Controlada 260 service is available for a monthly fee of BOB 260, while the Datos Viva 100 package costs BOB 100 per month. The promotion runs until  April 30, 2011.

 

NuevaTel PCS begins promotion for new postpaid mobile voice subscribers (Bolivia)

NuevaTel PCS has introduced a promotion for new subscribers to its Movil PCS postpaid service. Customers will receive a monthly bonus of 50 MB for mobile internet traffic for two months following service activation.

The promotion targets new subscribers to the Viva, Viva Sin Requisitos, Viva Cuenta Controlada, and Ejecutivo LA tariff plans. The promotion runs until 30 April.

 

 

Entel prolongs mobile phone coverage in Chuquisaca (Bolivia)

Entel has installed six mobile telephony antennas in the department of Chuquisaca.

The deployment is expected to expand Entel’s mobile phone coverage to 11 rural communities of the department, including Pututaca, Palacio Tambo, Malliri, Payacota del Carmen, Padcoyo, Sivinga Mayu, Ajchilla, Sunchu Tambo, Chinimayu, Cruz Mayu and Waylavi Khasa.
