Anatel warns operators to prove their 3G capacity in Brazil

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Brazil’s telecommunications regulator Anatel said that it will continue to veto the aggressive promotions of broadband Internet services of the operators. It warned the telco’s to prove that their networks can cope with the demand for mobile broadband services.

There has been an extensive expansion of broadband Internet services on mobiles with  20% increase in the clients taking the tally to 7.9 million in the month of October itself and is expected to reach 10 million by the end of the year.

The warning was issued amid this rapid expansion and in order to facilitate this growing demand, Anatel may also authorize network sharing between operators.

The local unit of Mexico’s America Movil SA and market leader in the Brazilian market, Vivo Participacoes and Claro along with other operators has decided to share infrastructure in order to face enormous investments in infrastructure in the coming years.

MTNL signs up with Israeli firm to expand IPTV services

State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has signed a deal with an Israeli firm and its Indian partner to expand the telecom giant’s IPTV services which will enable TV broadcasts through telephone lines.

As per the deal, Optibase Ltd, in association with its Indian partner Time Broadband Services Pvt Ltd, will supply 74 channels, the Israeli firm said in a release.

This is in addition to MGW 5100 IP video head-ends, enabling 26 channels of telco-grade streaming, provided by the Israeli company earlier.

MTNL had recently launched IPTV services, through time broadband, utilising Optibase’s IPTV MGW 5100 platforms for its digital IPTV head-end operation at the company’s network operating centre, it said.

Together with time broadband, Optibase is enabling the launch of MTNL’s IPTV services in Delhi, one of the most affluent areas in terms of revenue, with high sign on rates for broadband internet services.

“We were impressed by the quality of the Optibase solution and the superior level of service. Therefore we decided to select the Optibase MGW 5100 integrated digital head ends for the full-scale commercial launch”, Time Broadband Services’ Managing Director Sujata Dev said.

Service provider, time broadband is geared up to deploy IPTV services on both TV and PC delivery, through network and Internet service providers across India.
