The South Korean government plans to measure the speed and quality of broadband internet services from next year, reports the Korea Times. The Ministry of Information and Communication said it will evaluate 14 Internet services from seven companies – KT, Hanaro Telecom, LG Powercom, Tbroad, C& M, CJ Cablenet and HCN. Testing will start in October, and the results will be announced by March. The government expects the results will help consumers better gauge the quality of their services and press providers to improve quality and customer service. The ministry will invite 2,800 home internet users from eight major cities and provinces including Seoul, Incheon, Busan and Daejeon, to participate in the trial. In addition, some 9,000 people will be asked to participate in a telephone survey on the services they use.
