Now we have 1,500 employees and 5,000 base stations.’

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Orange Dominicana has reportedly introduced the country’s first GSM network powered entirely by solar energy. Orange claims that the new solar-powered base stations are ten times more efficient than traditional electric-powered cell sites, adding that the new units offer zero carbon dioxide emissions and zero noise. In the first phase, telco aims to build 30 base stations.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Entel Movil reportedly plans to deploy 276 new base stations by March 2010. The telco anticipates to have a total of 1,057 base stations in operation by that date, giving coverage of 90% of the population in the Oruro, Tarija and Pando departments, and overall coverage of 75%. The cost of the infrastructure expansion is estimated at BOB500 million (USD72.75 million). Presently, the telco covers approximately 2,600 rural municipalities, and it is anticipated to add a further by the end of this year.

New stations were installed in Absheron region (2), Baku (16), Sheki (1) and Gabala (1) cities. At present Azerfon LLC provides 1.3 million of subscribers with high-quality communication covering area with 90 % population of the country.
For convenient inter-connection of subscribes Azerfon LLC will continue installation of new transmitting stations throughout the whole country.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The state-run TOT has reportedly asked Advanced Info Service (AIS) to use some of the latter’s 12,000 base stations to quicken its plans to launch 3G mobile services across the country within the next two years. TOT intends to launch 2100MHz W-CDMA/HSDPA-based services across 500 existing GSM base stations of its subsidiary Thai Mobile in the capital at a cost of THB1.7 billion (USD50.6 million), before launching a 3,800 base station network across the country, costing around THB20 billion.

AIS president Wichien Mektrakarn said the company was ready to co-operate since it operated under a build-transfer-operate (BTO) concession with TOT, although as AIS had the first right to use its facilities under the BTO agreement, TOT would have to notify the company about any changes in usage.

A TOT director acknowledged that AIS’s base stations at some sites could not be adapted for 3G because some equipment and antennae were too heavy for the structures.

All base stations deployed by Huawei in the south and most other cell sites have been upgraded. O2 ended March  with a subscriber base 14.5 million and holds a market share of 13.6%.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: China Unicom is gearing up for 3G service, expects to lure as many as 30 million users for 3G telecom business one year after the service is launched. China Unicom has kept CNY 38.7 billion or USD 5.6 billion for the expansion of its 3G commercial network in 2009, unveiled sources. It started trail 3G commercial services after setting up a network covering 55 cities across the country on May 17, 2009, according to earlier reports.

China Unicom intends to set up 78,600 base stations in the first phase of commercial network construction in 2009, expanding its network to 284 cities throughout the country and making its 3G signal available to 74% of the population.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: China Mobile in Pakistan reportedly intends to double the number of its base stations across the country from the current 4,500 to 9,000 before 2009-end.
Earlier in 2009, China Mobile announced that it would invest $500 million in CMPak, China Mobile’s subsidiary in Pakistan, in 2009 to expand the company’s mobile networks and to enhance the coverage of its “Zong” brand.
PTA reportedly said that the China Mobile’s expansion plans aims to offer smooth and fast signal traffic to CMPak’s users. At the same time, the authority revealed that with the quickest growth among all telecom operators in Pakistan, CMPak’s current market share has increased from 2% in 2008 to 6.7%.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: CMPak (Zong), mobile operator of Pakistan, is reportedly planning to spend approximately USD500 million on increasing the number of base stations it has in operation to approximately 9,000 by the end of 2009.

According to the report, Zong plans to double the number of cell sites it has in certain areas of the country, and claims that the project is one of the largest undertaken in Pakistan. China Mobile, the parent company of Zong has already made an investment around USD1.66 billion in its Pakistan unit to date, USD600 billion of which was spent in the second half of the 2008-2009 fiscal year alone.
