www.WirelessFederation.com/news: HTC has reportedly unveiled one of the TD-SCDMA handsets it will introduce on China Mobile’s network is HTC Qilin, a device that features GSM and TD-SCDMA. The new smartphone will be sold under HTC’s Dopod brand, as T8388.
The handset doesn’t feature a QWERTY keyboard  but has a touchscreen and resembles the Touch Pro2.

The features of HTC Qilin include:

  • 5MP camera with autofocus
  • VGA front camera

China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou, who is in Taiwan, will meet with HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang to discuss mobile phone procurement and cooperation in development and research of China’s TD-SCDMA standards, a HTC executive unveils.
The strategic alliance is likely to help HTC Corp.’s Ophone to compete with Apple’s iPhone in China’s vast market. China Mobile and HTC will develop at least one new type of mobile phone this year and at least five types next year. The two companies will develop new smartphones based on China Mobile’s Open Mobile System (OMS), the executive added.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Chunghwa Telecom, the Taiwanese mobile operator, has reportedly announced a strategic alliance with High Tech Computer (HTC), Microsoft Taiwan and a number of local publishing companies to launch Hami Bookstore, a platform which will offer e-book service, in September 2009.

The reading devices which will be used are smartphones rather than electronic readers, with the iPhone to be selected initially and then smartphone models based on Android and Windows Mobile.
CHT has struck a cooperation deal with the local publishing companies, which will set content charge rates, with CHT getting a 25% commission on sales, the carrier said.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: HTC has reportedly confirmed that the users of HTC Magic will be able to upgrade their user interface the newly announced Sense UI. But for the Vodafone subscribers who had opted for HTC Magic in UK, the Sense UI update will not be offered to the handsets with the words “with Google” on it due to licencing agreements. This annoucement means the owners of the Vodafone HTC Magic in the UK and T-Mobile myTouch 3G in the US won’t be able to get the update.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: HTC which in April started selling the highly anticipated HTC Magic via Vodafone now reports to have sold 1 million handsets worldwide, fulfilling its plans which CEO Peter Chou had announced.
HTC further revealed that it now wants to shift its focus to mid-end smartphones for the rest of the year. According to Peter Chou, mid-end handsets will account for about 50-60% of the company’s shipments in the second half of 2009.

He further said mid-end smartphones should have a retail price of about $300. Most probably, the Android-powered HTC Click will be among these upcoming devices.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: HTC and its Chinese marketing partner Dopod will reportedly introduce three Android based handsets in China in 2009, including WCDMA-enabled HTC Hero and HTC Click, the sources unveil. The HTC Hero and HTC Click will be carried by China Unicom , with the HTC Hero to be available in late August at 5,600 yuan (US$649) and HTC Click in the fourth quarter at 3,400 yuan.
Dopod’s third Android-powered handset in China will be a TD-SCDMA-enabled model that will be launched in cooperation with China Mobile.
According to market sources, Dopod also also intends to have cooperation with China Telecom to launch CDMA EV-DO-enabled handsets, but the plan may be postponed to 2010 as HTC reschedules its shipments of Android-powered CDMA handsets to US-based carriers from late 2009 to 2010.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Taiwan-based HTC Corp’s U.S. phone unit is reportedly anticipating a 50% increase in handset sales this year, a prediction reflecting the popularity of its Android-powered smartphones. Jason Mackenzie, vice president for HTC America, reportedly said that he expects U.S. sales volume to grow to around 6 million units. HTC will see rising sales despite the economic slowdown and will continue to compete with rivals such as Apple Inc and Research in Motion Ltd, he added. The company is planning to team up with T-Mobile USA to sell a new Android mobile phone in the U.S. starting in August.
