Telstra goes “Smarter, greener, together†(Australia)
Telstra, Australia’s leading mobile operator, experiencing the present scenario of climate change and it’s adverse effects on humans, launches a new campaign and a website called Smarter, greener, together.â€
Telstra came up with this concept following a study which shows that the telecommunication in Australia is capable of reducing the yearly carbon emissions with about 5%, meaning with roughly 27 million carbon tons, by the beginning of 2015.
The mobile users can use the video confrencing service of the operator rather than driving or flying to the meetings.
The all new Smarter, greener, together†website will feature a calculator which has the cpability of calculating the amount of carbon one can save by choosing telecommunications alternatives.
The website will also focus on as to how the telecoms industry can reduce carbon emissions. Among them, there has been a mention of using video conferencing, which can be done only via a high-speed mobile network and only by users who own 3G handsets with video calling capabilities.
“Real solutions to climate change ones that enable the shift to a low-carbon economy require substantial investment in technology and in infrastructure. Certainly this includes ubiquitous high speed broadband,†said Executive Director of Innovation Projects for the Digital Future at Telstra, Chloe Munro.
In order to save the climate and go greener, the users can also go for the recycling of their old phones.
