Deutsche Telekom unveils UK Mobile App Store with 15,000 Apps

Deutsche Telekom’s software download portal, softwareload.co.uk has unveiled its UK mobile app store. It contains more than 15,000 mobile app for download.

A visitor can shop for apps which may range from navigation, games, software, business, communication and organizational tools. They can securely install them directly onto their mobile device or via their PC.

According to Dirk Lebzien, Head of Softwareload, consumers and business people alike are using mobile devices far more often for work or entertainment on the move. As a result they’re demanding wider access to exciting new apps to make the most of their mobiles.

In his opinion, with the launch of their UK mobile store on Softwareload.co.uk, shoppers can choose from more than 15,000 software titles that they can quickly and securely install onto their mobile device.

Sale of 40% stake in Telecom Srbija inches closer

The Serbian government is all set to discuss the sale of a 40% stake in Telecom Srbija later this week. Greek operator OTE owns 20% of Telekom Srbija while the remaining stake is controlled by the government.

According to Jasna Matic, the telecoms minister, the state has been poorly managing the company and that a sale would be good for the economy. The minister was also of the opinion that several companies are interested in the stake, including OTE shareholder Deutsche Telekom, Orascom and Turk Telecom.

It is expected that this sale will be a part of the international tender and the government will form a special budget for the funds collected from.

Orange & T-mobile get approvals to merge. UK’s largest Mobile Operator is now in the making.

The proposed merger between Orange and T-Mobile gets all the nods from competition authorities and government bodies in UK and Europe. This signals the creation of UKs largest mobile operator with 30 million users and a market share of around 37 percent.

Timotheus H¶ttges, the CFO of Deutsche Telekom said- “The negotiations were conducted in a fair way and I am certain that this spirit of professionalism and partnership will shape the future of our joint venture. It will set new standards as number one in UK mobile market.”

Of late, T-mobile has faired well but Orange has been fairing below expectations with its fixed broadband customer base dwindling to below the 1 million mark.

Most analysts believe that the merger will allow the companies to better leverage their synergies and develop competitive synergies in high growth sectors such as mobile broadband and roll out innovative services.

US Mobile Market consolidation not necessary- Deutsche Telekom CFO

Deutsche Telekom CFO, Timotheus Hoettges told Bloomberg News that he sees no need for further consolidation of the U.S. mobile-phone market.

He mentioned that there are four national players in the U.S. market for 300 million households, whereas in Europe, there are 350 million households with close to 70 operators.

Deutsche Telekom’s current focus in the U.S. is on expanding its 3G network.  It is investing $3.5 billion euros in the network in 2009. He said that the mobile data market in the US is booming and they must participate in that now.

On the Issue of 4G networks, there is a possibility that T-mobile could provide funding in exchange for access to ClearWire’s 4G network. Verizon and AT&T are already buliding independent 4G networks.

Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile bids 1.18 bln usd in 17th round us wireless auction

LONDON (AFX) – Deutsche Telekom AG’s T-Mobile bid 1.18 bln usd for 23 licenses in the 17th round of the US wireless auction, taking its total provisional bids to 58 licenses for 3.75 bln usd.Cingular AWS, owned by AT&T Inc and BellSouth Corp, bid 139.3 mln usd for 34 licences in the latest round, taking its total provisional bids to 37 licences for 632.9 mln usd.The US Federal Communications Commission started the auction last week and it will run until no more bids are submitted, a process that could take several weeks.The auction covers portions of radio spectrum which companies use to transmit sound, data or images wirelessly.

T-Mobile is expected to be a major bidder as it needs further spectrum in order to compete with its three bigger wireless rivals.
