China Mobile to launch 4G service on 25 April (Hong Kong)

Telecom operator China Mobile Ltd., is looking to roll out its 4G services in Hong Kong by the end of this month.

According to reports, Sean Lee, chief executive officer of China Mobile Hong Kong Co.,  said, a total of 10 4G phones will become available for customers this year.  Moile operator Telstra (CSL) is already offering the advanced fourth- generation services since its launch in 2010.

China Mobile claims that the high-speed service, based on LTE technology, offers maximum download speeds of 100 megabits a second, or as much as 50 times quicker than 3G.

The 4G/LTE service lets users stream high defination videos and download games at much faster speeds, thereby catering to their needs of more mobile data and improving customer experience.

Airtel to roll-out 4G services today (India)

Leading mobile operator in India, Bharti Airtel, will launch its 4G service in Kolkata today. As reported by Wireless Federation earlier, the operator will be the first to launch 4G services in India, which is expected to offer users download speeds of around 100 MB per second on the move and can go up to 1 Gigabits per second at a fixed location.

The operator has partnered with ZTE Corporation to plan, design, supply and deploy its 4G network in Kolkata, which will allow its subscribers to experience high-speed wireless internet access.

Sanjay Kapoor, Bharti Airtel CEO (India and South Asia), said that acccording to industry estimates, by 2016, six percent of all mobile connections will have 4G connection, which would create 36 percent of the total mobile data traffic, thus paving way for the ensuing data revolution. Further, the impending launch of 4G in the country will provide ultra high speed data access, driving fundamental changes in society at large.

As per sources, the operator has requested union telecom minister Kapil Sibal to inaugurate the 4G network.

Airtel to launch 4G/LTE services in India (Asia)

India’s leading mobile operator Bharti Airtel is set to launch 4G services in Kolkata this month, as reported by ET. As per the report, Sanjay Kapoor, CEO, Bharti Airtel said that the 4G service will be launched this month in the city of Kolkata.

The operator will be the first to launch 4G services in India, which is expected to offer users download speeds of around 100 MB per second on the move and it can go up to 1 Gigabits per second at a fixed location.

As reported earlier, Airtel had entered into a partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for building and operating its 4G network in Maharashtra.

O2 UK ranks top in mobile web speed in London

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: O2 UK has been ranked as the fastest provider for mobile web pages in London in a survey of the UK mobile network mobile data download speeds.

In January 2010, O2 offered the fastest average web page access experience in London at 1.7 seconds, over 30% quicker than the slowest operator. Even for misc download, O2 emerged the winner by providing the fastest music download rate in 12 out of 20 UK key cities and was second place in a further four more.

Tests were conducted between 10am and 10pm Monday to Sunday in London, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield.

T- Mobile reveals UK 3.5 G phone first

T-Mobile is claiming to be the first operator to get an HSDPA – that’s 3.5G – phone out the door and into business users’ hands.The MDA Vario II runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 and comes with Redmond’s push email. It boasts support for Microsoft Office apps such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word.Thanks to its 3.5G connectivity the device can theoretically achieve download speeds of around 1.8Mbps but most users will experience less than that.On the hardware side, the device sports a Qwerty keyboard and a large screen to support unrestricted web browsing.The device is made by Windows OEM shop, HTC.

The Vario II is, unsurprisingly, the second iteration of the smart phone. The first, known by the brand name Wizard, was also sold by O2 and Orange as own-brand devices.The device will cost £299 and under, depending on contract.
