ALBTelecom and Eagle Mobile merge business operations (Albania)
ALBTelecom and Eagle Mobile have merged their business stating that this strategy will offer users even greater benefits. According to company reports, Orhan Coskun, Director General, Albtelecom and Eagle Mobile, has said that the two companies have created a long-term development strategy, where the focus is total modernization of infrastructure and service delivery much more qualitative. He added that that they would provide all kinds of services to the client through a single structure.
He said that one of the advantages offered in this case is the possibility for a One-Stop-Shop, where they wish that through a single structure to provide all kinds of services to the client. Now the user does not care about the technology used, what they want is to access the Internet. They want to increase the amount of communication. They want to follow television channels no matter where they are.
Further, the market is becoming more demanding. So operators have to offer better prices to the consumer. The need is for companies to reduce operational costs and other related costs and this will directly affect the provision of better tariffs to consumers.
AMC wins 3G license (Albania)
Albanian Mobile Communications (AMC) has obtained the second 3G license in Albania, after Vodafone. According to reports, Dimitris Blatsios, chief executive officer at AMC, claims that the company is set to break the monopoly on 3G in Albania. The company aims to provide the Albanian market with reliable and cost effective data products, based on the latest and most advanced 3G technology.
With both Vodafone and AMC having obtained 3G licenses, Eagle Mobile is the only operator in Albania still to win a 3G spectrum license.
Vodafone to launch 3G network in Albania
Vodafone Albania will reportedly launch its 3G network this month, just weeks after winning the country’s sole UMTS allowance. Vodafone bagged the license by offering US$43.79 million, more than twice the 16.52 million price tag set by the Albanian telecoms regulator AKEP.
Vodafone’s offer beat its Turkish-owned rival Eagle Mobile’s bid of US$16.65 million. AKEP’s Offer Assessment Commission evaluated Vodafone’s offer with the full 100 points, while Eagle Mobile garnered 46 points.
According to reports, as the winner of the 3G license Vodafone will be required to ensure network coverage of 35% of the territory within six months of licensing, rising to 65% in twelve and 85% in 18 months. It was required to pay for the license within seven days of the announcement and launch commercial services within two months of the license award. Annual payments of around US$232,000 will be liable for spectrum usage.
Eagle Mobile’s auto-voice-SMS a hit (Albania)

Kirusa, a vendor of voice SMS and a developer of mobile value added services made this solution available to the telco.
More than 22% of Eagle subscribers availed the facility over a period of month.
Albanian minister asks three operators to slash tariffs by October (Albania)
Alabanian Telecom minister Sokol Olldashi announces October as the deadline for the country’s three wireless network operators to slash their tariffs by 20%.
The desicion for the reduction came after the Telecommunication Regulation Agency (ERT) which lowers interconnection rates between mobile operators.
The minister also announces the opening of an international tender for the country’s fourth wireless licence in October, to compete with the established trio of Vodafone, AMC and Eagle Mobile.
