www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Six percent rise in the revenues to EUR 6.9 billion in the first quarter has been reported by French telecommunications and media conglomerate Vivendi. EBITDA of the company boosted by 14.1 percent to EUR 1.6 billion while net profit increased 13.4 percent to EUR 736 million.

The strong performance has been attributed to very good results from videogame subsidiary Activision Blizzard and French operator SFR. Success of the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 benefited Activision.

Revenues increased by 29.3 percent to EUR 945 million and the unit more than doubled its EBITA to EUR 377 million. SFR also added 227,000 mobile and 148,000 broadband fixed customers in the quarter.

According to the company, Activision Blizzard and SFR have met their targets due the success of the games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, World of Warcraft, the successful integration of Neuf Cegetel into the new SFR, and important market share gains in broadband Internet.

The EBITA of the company has been boosted by 8.8 percent to EUR 5.39 billion, reflecting the strong performance of Activision Blizzard. Vivendi’s adjusted net income fell to EUR 2.59 billion, or EUR 2.15 per share, in 2009, compared to EUR 2.74 billion or EUR 2.34 per share, a year earlier.

French media group Vivendi has repeated its outlook for at least 16 percent growth in full-year adjusted net profit, after reporting an increase of 28 percent in the third quarter. For the three months to September, net profit, excluding one-time items, reached EUR 731 million, up 28.2 percent year-on-year. The result increased 16.3 percent over the first nine months of the year. Third-quarter adjusted EBITA was up 20.9 percent to EUR 1.300 billion.Across the various divisions, Universal Music Group posted third-quarter EBITA up 11.3 percent to EUR 138 million, and Canal+ improved EBITA 52.6 percent to EUR 148 million. EBITA at the games division more than doubled, up 118 percent to EUR 86 million, and French mobile operator SFR posted a 2 percent rise to EUR 706 million.
