Google has expanded its Google Cloud Print to work on mobile documents and Gmail for mobile. Last April, Google had launched a service that enables users to print documents from any device without having to install a dedicated printer driver in the computer.
To send a document to a printer, the user just need to open a document in Google Docs or an email in Gmail in their mobile browser and chooses “Print” from the dropdown menu in the top right corner. Users can also print certain kinds of email attachments (such as .pdf or .doc) by clicking the “Print” link that appears next to them.
This feature will be launching for English speaking users in the USA and will work on most phones that support HTML5, such as devices running Android 2.1+ and iOS 3+.
To get started, users will need to initially connect their printer to Google Cloud Print, which requires a Windows PC for the initial step. Thereafter, everything can work through the mobile phone.

New survey has revealed that the iPad is still a ways off from becoming a fourth screen and creating new revenue streams for content providers. A survey of 205 iPad owners and users, the report found early adopters are not demonstrating unique behaviors: six of the seven top reported activities are familiar ones, like web surfing and email.
The report also found that 76% of owners use the iPad at least five days a week, while 55% of owners use the device everyday.
But these users are bringing the free Internet mindset to the iPad, and only a small portion of users is willing to pay for content. This is a trend worth watching, as the iPad’s advertising-supported media model is different from that of any other medium, since iPad users must register with iTunes, providing much personally identifiable information through a pay wall. At the same time, Apple’s iAd advertising product can be purchased only through Apple, creating an entirely different advertising ecosystem that industry analysts are watching closely.
Early-adopters are currently treating the iPad as an Internet appliance. Media companies and other content creators cannot assume that iPod behaviors – purchasing content for the device – will be immediately transferred to the iPad. In early-adopter group, it was seen that iPad users prefer an ad-supported model over a pay model to gain access to content. At this point, a pay-for-content model would appeal only to a niche group of consumers.
Ironically, users who watch TV episodes or movies on their iPads most often learn about them from branded apps created by services like YouTube, Netflix and SlingBox. Word-of-mouth, typically the most common information source, came in second in the survey, just ahead of TV network apps, with iTunes mentioned less.
The study also shows that 70% of iPad owners/users have read an e-book on the device; 61% electronic magazine or journal; and 51% have watched network TV programs. Yet only 13% of iPad owner/users would be willing to pay extra for an iPad-friendly version of a magazine or TV show they already pay for in its standard format (such as a cable or magazine subscription).

The company has unveiled its upcoming Messages service, which allows users to decide which format to view conversations in from a choice of SMS, IM, or email.
According to Facebook engineer Joel Seligstein, every Facebook user will be offered @facebook.com email addresses, but the firm insists the services are not email services. There are no subject lines, no cc, no bcc, and you can send a message by hitting the Enter key.
The service has a social inbox which collates messages by friend accounts, and can be configured to bounce any emails not received from friends.
As per Seligstein, messages will be rolled out to all Facebook users over the next few months.
As per reports, pre-release reports suggested that Messaging was viewed internally as a challenge to webmail services including Google’s Gmail, but Zuckerberg doesn’t expect people to shut down their current email accounts, stating the service is a messaging system that includes email.

If sources are to be believed, Verizon Wireless is planning to introduce a less expensive but restricted data plan for smartphone customers next week in a move that follows AT&T Inc.’s own offer of two tiers of pricing.
Verizon will offer a US$15 monthly plan that gives customers 150 MB of data starting Oct. 28. But unlike AT&T, it will keep available its US$29.99 monthly unlimited data plan.
The move is part of a broader shift by carriers to change how they charge customers for the use of Internet, email and music downloads through their mobiles. Carriers have to manage offering these data services at a fixed rate with adequate investment in the essential networks to ensure the traffic flows smoothly.
But the lower-priced data plan has also proven to be an advantage for AT&T, enticing new customers into upgrading to a smartphone. The $15 monthly charge would last throughout the life of the two-year contract.
Verizon Wireless will look at how successful the plan is before deciding whether it will extend the offer permanently, the person said. The new option is seen as a more affordable plan that can better compete with AT&T’s own tiered offering.
Verizon Wireless could also make significant changes to the plan next year once it begins offering its fourth-generation wireless services. It is scheduled to launch its 4G network in 38 markets by the end of this year, and is expected to offer different plans for the service.

UAE has reached a regulatory compliant solution with Blackberry maker Research In Motion, avoiding a ban on key Blackberry services that would have come into force from Monday.
As per reports, Telecom Regulatory Authority has announced that BlackBerry services in the UAE will continue beyond October 11.
According to a statement given by TRA, all Blackberry services in the UAE will continue to operate as normal and no suspension of service will occur on October 11, 2010. The positive engagement and collaboration with RIM, ending a long-running dispute with the Canadian company over-how it stores electronic data.
In August, the regulator had announced that it would suspend key Blackberry services including instant messaging, email, and web browsing as of October 11 over national security concerns if an agreement wasn’t reached.
The agreement will bring relief to around 500,000 Blackberry users in the U.A.E., the Arab world’s second-largest economy, who were in a fix over whether their devices would still support their email and instant messages next week.
Saudi’s telecom regulator in August stated that it will allow BlackBerry messenger services to continue in the kingdom as some of its regulatory requirements had been satisfied. The country’s Communication and Information Technology Commission had earlier announced it planned to ban some BlackBerry services from Aug. 9.

The latest survey conducted by Mumbai Police revealed that 60% of prepaid SIM cards are acquired using fake documents.
According to Sanjeev Dalal, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Out of the 15,000 mobile connections surveyed, six in every 10 connections had submitted fake address and identity proof. It is worrying to find out that 60% of the 15,000 prepaid SIM cards were issued by vendors without proper verification of documents.
While telecom companies are going hard on mobile SIM resellers to achieve the set target of SIM card sales, Dalal commented that the resellers or vendors need to follow the rules and regulations with proper verification of address and documents of the SIM card buyer.
The police came into action after an email allegedly sent by the banned group Indian Mujahideen owning up the responsibility for the attacks outside the historic Jama Masjid in the national capital.
Internet connection of a mobile phone that had Tata Doccomo SIM card was used to send the email soon after the attacks outside the Jama Masjid. It was not clear if either prepaid or post-paid SIM card was used to send the mail.
