www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The fourth quarter revenue of South American fixed-line operator Telmex Internacional has been reported which went up 32.1 percent to reach MXN 25.722 billion.  Revenue increased 14.2 percent in Argentina, 7.2 percent in Brazil, 24.9 percent in Chile, 12.8 percent in Colombia and 5.3 percent in Peru.

With 21.8 percent increase, the revenue-generating units of the company reached 18.5 million at the end of 2009. The growth has been attributed to the Brazilian unit Embratel. With 47.3 percent increase, EBITDA for the quarter totaled MXN 6.371 billion.

An investment of USD 1.164 billion over all of 2009 was made by the Mexico-based operator, mainly in Brazil and Colombia.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Pakistan’s mobile market according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has reported a penetration level of 58.5% at the end of July. The mobile segment, in July added 1 million mobile suscribers taking the total mobile subscriber base to 95.55 million.
Of the total base, Mobilink led the market with 29.5 million (31%) subscribers while Telenor stood second with 21.3 million (22%) followed by Ufone with 21% market share.
The highest monthly additions were achieved by Mobilink with 414,000 new subscribers followed by Telenor and Warid with 406,000 and 255,000 new subscribers respectively.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the country’s mobile operators added 6.322 million subscribers on their network in 2008-09. As per latest statistics released by the telecom regulator, the total mobile subscriber base across the nation reached 94.342 million on the network of five operators. Accordingly, the subscribers’ base widened by 7.1% with teledensity touching 58.20.
Telenor ruled the market as it added the maximum subscribers of 2.767 million taking the total base to 20.893 million base, PTA data said. Zong has remained dominant in the market by capturing 2.435 million subscribers in the overall addition of subscribers. Its network has increased to 6.386 million by the end of 2008-09 followed by Warid, which attracted 2.39 million subscribers in the same period with the overall base stood at 17.886 million.
The PTA data says by June 2009, Mobilink was leading the market share with 29.136 million subscribers. Ufone’s base stood at 20 million in the same fiscal year.
The report unveils that the Pakistani mobile market has reached a saturation point so the operators have shifted their focus on to VAS to earn greater revenues.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: SFR, the French mobile operator which had started selling the Apple iPhone after France Telecom’s exclusive deal was suspended, has sold 160,000 iphones as of May 31, the company’s Chief Executive Frank Esser reportedly said. “We are in a very positive dynamic,” Esser said.
SFR had started vending the Apple device on April 8.

Mobilink emerged as the market leader with a subscriber base of 28.282 million rising from 28.240 million a month earlier. Telenor took the second position as its subscriber base passes 20 million mark, up from 19.985 million. Ufone’s subscriber base which stood at 19.612 million in March rose to 19.713 million. Whereas Warid posted 17.511 million subscribers versus 17.376 million in March. Zong, the China Mobile subsidiary, ended April with 6.129 million subscribers, up from 5.980 million in March. Mobile penetration in the country stood at 57.10% of the population in April, versus 55.90% at 2008 start.

The service entails, up to 20 Mbps internet access, a basic package of over 90 TV channels, unlimited calls to fixed numbers in France and over 100 international destinations, and a mobile plan with between 2 and 6 hours of calls per month. If the subscriber oays extra EUR 10 per month, they can make 3 hours of calls from their landline to mobile phones on any network.  Ideo’s charges will start at EUR 44.90 per month on a two-year contract, that includes unlimited SMS/MMS, internet access, e-mail and 3G+ TV. For EUR 55.90 per month, subscribers will be able to make unlimited calls after 20:00, EUR 65.90 will give them unlimited calls after 19:00 weekdays and all day on weekends, and EUR 75.90 will offer unlimited calls after 18:00 weekdays and all day on weekends. Subscribers to 3 hour, 4 hour and 6 hour call plans add EUR 6 per month for each additional hour. The subscribers who sign one-year contracts pay an additional EUR 7 monthly.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Vodafone Group has become a part of the lucrative mobile application market as it announces the launch of new software to enable mobile developers to create applications that will work across its entire range of phones.
The applications will be billed directly to its subscribers through their Vodafone accounts and the company will benefit from sales through a revenue-share model.
Vodafone is in line for 30% of the revenue generated through its network. The operator has generated a set of interfaces that will enable developers to use its subscriber’s location to tailor their services, or bill them directly rather than going through a separate Web site.
The applications will ultimately be sold through an application store in the same way that they are being sold by Apple Inc. currently, and later by Nokia Corp, Microsoft Corp. and Google Inc’s Android operating platform.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has reportedly received four applications for licences in order to deploy 4G services in the country. The deadline to submit applications was 7 May. The new mobile networks will use frequencies in the 2,010 MHz to 2,025MHz range for introducing LTE technology. The applicants are expected to be the major mobile operators NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, Softbank Mobile and Willcom. A decision on the licences is expected this summer.

The Budget 750 plan will offers 1500 minutes in a combo of local and STD calls along with 200 local SMS, and the Budget 1000 plan will give 2050 minutes in a combination of local and STD calls along with 500 local SMSs.
