The operators intends to add 1.5 million new subscribers in next 6 months. In year’s time, the operator will make an investment of $230 million for network expansion outside its current strongholds in the capital Nairobi and the port city of Mombasa, Iyengar said.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The Taiwanese government still reportedly prohibits China Mobile to make an investment in the Far EasTone as it intends to disapprove China Mobile’s plan to acquire 12% stake in the Taiwanese operator, according to Taiwan’s vice economic minister, Hwang Jung-chiou.

Taiwan’s government just eased its policy to allow China-based companies to make investments in some sectors in June 2009 and the government may review the policy one year later to see if there is room for further liberalization, Hwang stated.

The True Corp subsidiary said it would use its own cash flow to finance the investment, although timing is dependent on the country issuing 2100MHz 3G licences – expected to be auctioned by late 2009 or early 2010.

In a second bid to drum up interest, the Macedonian Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) apparently solicited interest from 19 of the world’s biggest telecoms companies including Vodafone Group (UK), Telefonica of Spain, China Telecom, Telenor Norway and companies in India, Russia and South America. The AEC has requested them to place an auction for for two 3G mobile licences but none of the firms approached showed interest in investing in the country. The licence was offered at a reserve price of just EUR5 million (USD7.1 million).

The funding will be used for research on the enhanced version of LTE, LTE Advanced. In countries like Finland, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the UK LTE trials are going on. The commercial launch of services will be made in Sweden and Norway in H1′10. In September 2009, the EC will roll out negotiations on the details with project consortia, including the flagship Artist4G that builds on the achievements of the Winner projects and unites 4G industry and researchers from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK. The new projects are scheduled for launch in January 2010.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Warid Telecom had reportedly taken its subscriber base to 2.5 million subscribers in two years of its operations. The operator has so far made an investment of $600 million so far.
“Our current base station count stands at around 1,750 which are deployed all over Bangladesh. Our investment made so far is around $600 million. Warid has paid over 6.5 billion taka as direct and indirect taxes to the national exchequer,” Warid Telecom’s chief executive Muneer Farooqui said.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: According to Bharti Airtel, it will make an investment of  Rs 500 crore in network upgrade and another Rs 100 crore in associated activities in the current fiscal in the North East region.

“About Rs 500 crore will be invested in network rollout and around Rs 100 crore in other associated activities in 2009-10. The company had spent a similar sum last fiscal,” said Bharti Airtel Joint Managing Director Manoj Kohli.

He added that the company has invested close to Rs 1,800 crore since 2005 in the region. The company now intends to cover more highways, tourist hotspots and religious sites in Assam.
