www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Senegalese telecommunications regulator ARTP has classified Sentel GSM, as the dominant operator in the mobile call termination market in 2009. However, Sonatel holds 77% of mobile call termination traffic in comparison to Sentel’s 23%, the existence of the new incumbent Expresso Senegal, which only started operating this year, influenced the authority’s decision. Sentel had begun interconnecting its network since November 2008.
Sentel has a subscriber base of 1.85 million, captures 34.4% of the market. Sonatel home to 3.54 million mobile subscribers, holds 65.6% market share and is the dominant in all other market segments, including fixed telephony, data transmission, wholesale capacity, national transit, IP transit and access top special services.
