Vodafone 360 service extended to Android users
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Vodafone’s 360 service has been extended to Android users, which will provide a Vodafone People application that even non-Vodafone customers are welcome to use. 300,000 dedicated 360 handsets have been sold by Vodafone since November last year which have Vodafone People integrated into the experience.
The application is available for free through the Android Marketplace, and after installation, users will be able to consolidate all their online identities with Vodafone. The theory is that once you’ve consolidated your Facebook, Twitter, Hotmail and so forth into something like Vodafone 360, then you’ll be reluctant to switch networks.
The downloadable Symbian application makes the Vodafone’s service available to customers of other network operators.
Movistar Argentina signs management contract with NSN
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Movistar Argentina and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) have entered into a key identity management contract as per which, NSN will provide the technology that will let Movistar subscribers automatically link to their online identities on sites such as Facebook through their SIM cards.
The customers would not have to separately sign on to the social network site or other online destinations such as Flickr for photo-sharing. In the three year deal, NSN will also handle maintenance and support.
According to Pablo Vita, head of the Movistar Argentina business team at NSN, this unified approach will help Movistar Argentina subscribers to unlock the potential of their mobile presence and share it securely with other trusted third parties besides increasing its revenue and strengthen its market position.
Sony Ericsson adds QWERTY keyboard to Vivaz Phone

Motorola’s Android 2.1 moves to Droid
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Official Facebook page of Motorola has been announced by the firm. The users of the Motorola Droid should expect their devices to update to Android version 2.1 at some point this week.
According to the company, the relay of the 2.1 upgrade to Droid will start to roll out this week and more information will be shared on other device upgrades later this week.
The features to be included with the update are yet not revealed by Motorola and it is also not informed when Verizon will begin to deliver the update to end users.
Sony Ericsson to supply Android smartphone to DoCoMo
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Sony Ericsson signed a deal with Japan’s largest mobile carrier NTT DoCoMo to supply its first smartphone using Google Inc.’s Android operating system, Xperia X10, to be launched in April.
However, Sony’s Ericsson’s entry in the iPhone market is late to compete with Apple Inc.’s iPhone or Research In Motion Ltd.’s Blackberry devices.
According to Bert Nordberg, president of the loss-making joint venture between Sony Corp. and Sweden’s Ericsson, DoCoMo will be company’s first customer globally to get its new mobile phone.
Some of the features of the phone include four-inch touch-screen and a powerful mobile processor besides some software features that allows users to track all of their communication with friends or colleagues, spanning phone calls, e-mail and even social networks like Twitter and Facebook.
Android-based handset launched by LG

Both free and payable apps including weather, games, mapping, Facebook and Twitter applications has been offered by LG InTouch Max GW620. The features of the phone include a 5-line QWERTY and touch screen keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera, a 3-inch touch screen, and a 1500mAh battery. The Social Networking Manager built-in application allows the users to access their friend’s social networking profiles directly from their contacts lists.

Facebook access problems resolved by AT&T
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The problem encountered by some AT&T users while logging into their Facebook account via their mobile handset has been resolved by the company. Due to certain network issues, the users trying to log into their account logged into someone else’s account.
According to AT&T spokesman Michael Coe, in a limited number of instances, a server software connectivity error resulted in some AT&T wireless customers being logged in to the wrong Facebook account when they accessed Facebook through their mobile phones.
A new security measure has been added by AT&T to prevent the problem from recurring, besides collaborating with Facebook to disable subscriber identification information as an option for automatic log-on.
