China Unicom to invest RMB 20Bn in Shanghai
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: China Unicom, China’s second largest mobile operator, has inked a framework agreement with the Shanghai municipal government to RMB 20 billion in the IT sector during the next three years.
Under the agreement, China Unicom will grow the fixed-asset investment in Shanghai, upgrade 3G network and develop mobile applications to boost the IT industry. In addition, the telecom operator will make an expenditure of RMB 800 million on the preparations for the World Expo 2010 Shanghai.
The investment will help create 10,000 jobs and will also help the city become an international financial and shipping center, the telecom operator said in a statement.
