3G campaign for FoneZone

BRISBANE mobile phone retailer Fone Zone will launch an aggressive campaign to switch CDMA customers to new 3G services later this year.

Chief executive David McMahon said the company planned to target the 1.6 million CDMA customers who would be left without reception when Telstra phased out the network.
“We’re going to have some fairly strong offers to encourage customers to migrate their CDMA phone across to the new Next G network,” Mr McMahon said. “We plan to roll that out nationally in November, particularly in regional and rural areas.”

Speaking at Fone Zone’s annual general meeting yesterday, Mr McMahon said the uptake of Telstra’s Next G mobile network after two weeks of sales had been better than expected. Fone Zone, which is Telstra’s largest dealer, reported a 26 per cent rise in net profit to $10.7 million in the 12 months to June 30.
