Vodafone gets submarine cable from Gulf Bridge

Gulf Bridge International (GBI), the Middle East’s newly established, privately owned submarine cable operator announced that it landed, in cooperation with Vodafone its new submarine cable at Vodafone international cable landing station located north of Doha.

A statement by GBI said its submarine cable system which will be commissioned later this year will utilize the latest subsea fibre cable technology. It will connect all the countries of the Gulf region to each other and provide onward connectivity to Europe and Asia.

The launch of GBI’s cable system will provide telecom operators and other communications companies, both in the region and globally, with greater choice, value, diversity and resilience.

Qatar telecom & GBI sign LPA agreement

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: A  Landing Party Agreement (LPA) agreement has been completed by Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Middle Eastern submarine cable operator Gulf Bridge International (GBI) under which a landing station in Qatar for GBI’s Gulf regional undersea cable, which when completed will connect all the Gulf countries to each other and provide onward connectivity to Europe and Asia.

The GBI Cable System is scheduled to launch in 2011 and designed to operate for up to 25 years and will have a design capacity of up to 5Tbps on certain sections, aimed at meeting the rapid growth in demand that has been forecast for traffic originating and terminating in the Gulf.

According to Dr. Nasser Marafih, CEO of Qtel, by connecting Qatar to this new global cable system, the company is layering an additional level of resilience to the existing infrastructure to enable and maintain seamless and un-interrupted communication across the world.

Vodafone Qatar and GBI sign cable deal

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Vodafone Qatar and Gulf Bridge International signed a deal to provide a landing station the latter’s submarine cable in the Gulf state.

GBI cable system is scheduled to launch in 2011 and designed to operate for up to 25 years. It will connect telecommunication operators and other communications firms in the region via a core ring, which can re-route traffic thereby increasing resilience.

All the countries of the Gulf region will be connected by the GBI cable system and it will also provide onward connectivity to Europe and Asia. The cable system will have a design capacity of up to 5 Tbps on certain cable sections.

The system will also have capability to meet the rapid growth in demand that has been forecast for traffic originating and terminating in the Gulf.
