The mobile firm of Honduran national PTO Hondutel is making all its efforts to grow itself in the mobile market despite the intense competition in the local market. ‘We continue to grow; in the area of Santa Rosa de Copan we are finishing the installation of new offices and we are ready to offer mobile telephony,’ said company CEO Jorge Alberto Rosa. Honducel, the mobile arm of Hondutel was launched in July’07 and since then has struggled to gain a status due to its solely urban coverage.

A local media reports that, Conatel has sent the country’s mobile operators a consultation document on plans to implement mobile number portability (MNP). Tigo, Claro, Hondutel’s mobile arm Honducel and new market entrant Digicel will initially be scrutinized. The regulator has not yet revealed a timetable for MNP, but is keen to keep pace with developments elsewhere in the region.
