Norcon 1H profit, revenue drops

Global communications network specialist Norcon has reported a 20% decline in first-half pretax profit as revenue chop down, but claimed to be making good progress in its strategic expansion in the markets. In addition, other sales and operational costs were impacted by additional sales and marketing expenses.

For the first half, profit before tax was dropped to US$4.10 million from US$5.24 million last year. Norcon’s first- half pretax profit fell to US$4 million from US$5 million compared to year earlier.

Profits for the half year were US$2.78 million, lower than US$3.68 million last year. Pro forma earnings per share were US$0.06 from US$0.07 last year. Turnover for the six months dropped to US$34.24 million compared to the previous year.

Separately, the company announced that it has inked a contract with Norway-based telecommunications firm Ventelo, to provide assistance in designing and implementing operating support systems for the company.

In-flight mobile phone calls activated in Turkish Airlines

As per the contract signed between Turkish Airlines and ¬Panasonic Avionics, Panasonic’s eX2 In-Flight Entertainment and Global Communications Suite powered by AeroMobile will be installed to enable the passengers to have a full complement of in-flight entertainment and communication options available at their fingertips.

According to Temel Kotil, President and Chief Executive Officer of Turkish Airlines, Panasonic’s eX2 and Global Communications Suite will give the ability to tailor passengers’ experiences with live broadcast TV, Wi-Fi access for laptops and PDAs, as well as the use of mobile phones.

Over one million airline passengers have now used AeroMobile services since inception. On some flights, passenger adoption rates are exceeding 40%.

UK mobile users to receive free calls when travelling abroad

UK mobile users can now receive calls on their mobile for free when travelling abroad.

Global communications company WorldSIM has launched a global SIM card with a UK number that allows subscribers to receive calls for free when travelling in over 65 countries. The cost for making a call back to the UK starts at 40p per minute. SMS messages cost 30p per message.
