MACRA awards mobile licence to Gain, warns other operators over substandard services (Malawi)

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority, MACRA, has awarded country’s third mobile licence to, Globally Advanced Integrated Networks (Gain). According to operator’s Vice Chairman Limbani Kalilani said the company would invest over USD 40 million within the first five years of operation. The telco will operate under the brand name G-Mobile. The operator has been given a deadline of 10 months to start operations. The Chairman of MACRA, Thengo Maloya has further warned other operators in the country the regulator will suspend their licences if the operators continue to provide substandard services. He also advised the new and existing operators to offer cheaper phones causing no health risk to consumers.
