www.WirelessFederation.com/news: TEO LT has reported its consolidated financial results for the six months ended 30 June 2009. As per the statistics, telco’s revenue dipped 0.8% to LTL409 million (USD168.7 million) year-on-year. The group’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) mounted by 1.7% compared with the first six months of 2008 to LTL190 million, driven by retained revenue level and efficiency of operations. Profit in the first half of 2009 amounted to LTL92 million, up 2.9% year-on-year.

The firm reported a rise in its broadband subscriber base  by 5,700 during the first six months of 2009 to reach 303,800, while the total number of fixed telephony lines in service reached 742,600 at 30 June 2009, down from 767,805 six months ago.

Mobile revenues experiences a rise of 19.8%, to USD467 million. According to a report, Azerbaijan had just over six million mobile subscribers, 70,000 broadband customers and around 1.5 million fixed lines at the end of 2008.

The operator further added 750,000 new broadband subscribers and lost 1.35 million fixed voice subscribers.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Danish mobile operator 3 experiences growth in 2008 turnover by 19% to DKK 1.466 billion in comparison to DKK 1.228 billion in 2007. EBIT was a loss of DKK 414 million, an improvement of DKK 225 million from 2007. The subscriber base has grown to 408,000, up 36% from 300,000 subscribers in 2007, while mobile broadband subscribers rose 58% in 2008. Regardless of the growth in its subscriber base, its operating cost climbed only 3.85% year-on-year. The company achieved positive cash EBITDA on a monthly basis and said it expects continued improvement this year.

It added 11.75 million telephone connections in comparison to 15.87 million in March. The number of telephone connections reached 441.47 million in April from 429.72 million a month before, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said. Overall tele-density reached 37.94 from 36.98. The total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA and wireless local loop-fixed) have reached 403.66 million. Considering the wireline sector, the subscriber base dipped 0.15 million to 37.81 million in April. Although, the broadband subscriber base stood at 6.28 million.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: According to BSNL, it aims for 7.5 million broadband subscribers with new focus on tier II and tier III cities as well as rural areas.

“We are targeting 7.5 million broadband subscribers in the current fiscal, up from the 3.7 million in a bid to expand our market. We expect the demand from the small towns and cities to grow substantially. We are offering broadband services in rural areas at subsidised rates. To expand our coverage, BSNL plans to use vendors for offering bundled subscription,” said Anil Jain, General manager, broadband, BSNL.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: KT Corp, the South Korean telco, has reported a drop of 9% in its Q1′09 net profits driven by slowdown in its fixed-line calls and the impact of discounts for subscribers on bundled services and long-term contracts.
KT, which holds 90% of the total South Korean fixed-line market and 43% of the total broadband subscriber, posted a 139.6 billion won ($103.3 million) net profit in January-March.
KT, in order to enhance its subscriber base and service offerings in the saturated South-Korean market, is set to merge its operations with the mobile operator KTF.

Tele2 gains 233,000 mobile subscribers

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Tele2 reports a loss of 20,000 subscribers in Q1′09. The operator gained 233,000 new mobile subscribers which were offset by the loss of 4,000 fixed broadband users and another 255,000 fixed telephony subscribers. Tele2 anticipates the rate of decline in fixed telephony would still continue. The subscriber base totals to 24.466 million at the end of March in comparison to 23.129 million a year earlier.

The mobile phone line uptake in the country has gone to nearly two mobile phones per person. The TRA’s report further reveals that the number of mobile phone lines in December reached 191 lines per 100 users.
