GPRS price barriers crashed by BSNL (India)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Five new GPRS plans have been launched by Indian telco, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited for its existing 2G GSM users. The rate of the mobile internet in India has been effectively lowered by the new plans from BSNL making it even more affordable.
BSNL had 62.8 million wireless connections and the active GPRS users are pegged at around just 8-10 million.
The new GPRS plans are effective from January 25, 2010 and except the unlimited plan, applicable to users of BSNL’s 2G data card.
Nepal telecom reduces monthly rental charges
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The GSM post-paid mobile users of Nepal Telecom (NT) will get a respite as the minimum monthly rental charge has gone down to Rs 300. Earlier, the users have to pay the minimum monthly rental of Rs
500 for service with GPRS and Rs 400 for service without GPRS.
Besides, from the minimum monthly charge, users can avail talk-time worth the same amount.
Another scheme has also been introduced according to which post-paid mobile users can make call to any three chosen numbers at 90 paisa per minute, excluding taxes. The only thing the user needs to do is to register their numbers to be used at discounted price with NT.
M2M Global Unit set up by Telefonica

A multinational and multidisciplinary team, dedicated exclusively to defining, implementing and supporting global clients as well as deploying these services backs this new unit.
The unit has more than 100 staffs directly reporting to the Telefonica Global Product and Services Unit. The Global M2M product of Telefonica is the first integrated end-to-end solution in the market which offers corporate clients a turnkey solution, not limited to mobile technology (SMS, GPRS or UMTS).
ADSL or complementary networks such as Zigbee, UWB, Satellite, RFID or NFC can support M2M by offering tailor-made global and local Value Added Services to any client anywhere.
A testing laboratory has also been developed by the operator for the use of its corporate clients. This will help them bring pilot projects and test new functionalities, applications and new handsets.
U Mobile’s subscribers to roam on DiGi network
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The subscribers of 3G operator U Mobile can now roam on DiGi’s EDGE network as the company has signed a 3-year domestic roaming agreement with DiGi.
The roaming agreement with DiGi will allow U Mobile subscribers to enjoy voice, SMS and data services (GPRS/EDGE) nationwide including flawless hand-over of voice calls from U Mobile’s 3G network to DiGi’s 2G network.
DiGi’s EDGE networks will formally be inducted only after the domestic agreement with Celcom ends, thus making it an exclusive provider of domestic roaming traffic services for U Mobile. Celcom and U Mobile signed a domestic roaming agreement, limited to voice and SMS in 2007.
Mobile search service launched by Mobifone(Vietnam)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Vietnam based mobile operator MobileFone launched its mobile-search service in partnership with Nam Digital Corp Area 1 (VDC1). The msearch service is based on socbay technology of Naiscorp.
The service will operate on GPRS base and high speed 3G. Using a client support of nearly 300 mobile lines in Vietnam, the service will provide relevant information of the search results to the users including pictures, sound and ads.
The aim of the service is to attract businessmen and youngsters, and has been developed to provide an alternative to search engines on mobile devices in the thriving market of 3 G services and smartphone.
BH gives Ericsson’s Croatian unit new 5.9Mn GSM contract (Bosnia & Herzegovina)
