Huawei Ideos X6 is offering a 4.1-inch capacitive display, HSPA+ 14.4mbps, Wi-Fi b/g/n, a-GPS, Google Apps, accelerometer, HD video recording, HD video playback, Dolby Mobile Surround Sound and HDMI output.

While the company will continue to work closely with their key partners, Huawei will now also have a brand of its own. The company believes that people have been paying too much for the latest mobile technology and they can give consumers a choice of affordable mobile devices without compromising on innovative design and cutting-edge technology. This is about making high-tech devices within everyone’s reach.

The pricing and availability details of these Android handsets remain nebulous.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: A new three-year contract has been awarded to Ericsson by Hon  Kong mobile operator SmarTone  under which the Swedish technology provider will upgrade the cellco’s entire network to 42Mbps HSPA+ standard by the end of this year.

Company’ s first 42Mbps HSPA+ base stations entered operations a couple of weeks ago and 42Mbps HSPA+ roll out will take place over the entire network by the end of the year.  According to SmarTone CEO Douglas Li, the deployment of the Ericsson multi-mode, multi-standard base stations would ‘smooth the way’ to providing peak speeds of 84Mbps as well as accommodating the future upgrade to Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

SmarTone launched commercial HSPA+ services in November 2009, HSUPA services two years before and has launched 28.8Mbps HSPA+ mobile broadband packages last month itself.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: A milestone of 50,000 mobile broadband subscribers on its 3.5G network within the next week is aimed to be achieved by Qatar Telecom (Qtel).

Qtel launched 3G W-CDMA services in July 2006 and a 3.5G HSDPA upgrade in December 2007. Mobile broadband internet packages for laptop/PC users were not launched by the company as late as 2008. This was followed by HSUPA upload in the first quarter of 2009.

According to the company, the popularity of the service took off significantly when it launched a pre-paid mobile broadband option in December 2009 and claims that users can expect to receive actual internet speeds ranging from 1Mbps to 3Mbps, depending on their proximity to a Qtel 3G tower.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Successful tests of HSPA+ technology with the capability to deliver downlink speeds of up to 28Mbps was completed by Sri Lankan mobile operator Mobitel, a subsidiary of wireline incumbent Sri Lanka
Telecom.

Installation of Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology which effectively uses multiple antennas in both the handset helped to achieve the speed. Besides, HSPA network is also used, that splits the radio signal into multiple streams, providing an ideal platform to offer faster mobile broadband access and enhanced data-based services.

Mobital carried out the tests of HSPA+ in partnership with China’s Huawei Technologies. Commercial 3.5G network services under the ‘M3′ banner was launched by Mobitel in December 2007 based on HSDPA/HSUPA technology, enabling maximum theoretical speeds of 14.4Mbps (downlink) and 2Mbps (uplink).

EDGE-enabled handsets have never attracted the same levels of attention that “sexier” technologies such as WCDMA and HSDPA have enjoyed. In fact EDGE can best be described as the Cinderella of the cellular handset world. However, recent forecasts from ABI Research indicate that the worldwide EDGE handset market will reach 148 million shipments in 2006, representing 14% of the total mobile phone market. Principal analyst Stuart Carlaw points out that, “EDGE is downplayed in the market because it cannot really provide a mobile broadband experience and is therefore not seen as being at the cutting edge of cellular handset evolution; it is viewed purely as an evolutionary step on the GSM ladder, and industry attention is very much focused on the newer technologies such as W-CDMA and HSDPA. That view is further compounded by the fact that operators do not actively report EDGE numbers in the public domain.”"However,” adds research director Jake Saunders, “This lack of general market attention belies the real importance of the role EDGE plays in delivering mobile services today and will play in the effective delivery of content in the network of tomorrow.”Apart from the sheer volume of EDGE handsets, the ABI Research analysts believe that the industry as a whole should pay more attention to this market because EDGE is the only choice for some carriers today to support any type of near-acceptable mobile broadband experience, especially those with no 3G licenses or those waiting for 4G. Carlaw adds, “When the prospects for EDGE are viewed in the context of next generation networks, its true value comes to light. The technology still represents the only viable choice for supporting seamless service delivery on a very wide area basis. Neither WiMAX nor LTE nor HSUPA will be rolled out with enough geographic coverage to guarantee minimum service requirements on a wide scale.”
