Idea Cellular to instigate 3G by end-2010 or in Jan

Idea Cellular expects to start 3G wireless services by end-2010 or in January. The Managing Director has confirmed the news.

According to Sanjeev Aga, the company would extensively rollout 3G networks in the January-March quarter of 2011.

Idea, part of the Aditya Birla conglomerate, won 3G radio airwaves in 11 of India’s 22 telecoms zones in an auction earlier this year. IDEA Cellular is a leading GSM mobile services operator in India with over 72 million subscribers, under brand IDEA. It is a pan India integrated GSM operator covering the entire telephony landscape of the country, and has NLD and ILD operations.

3G rollout to boost Internet Telephony Service Provider in India

The roll out of 3G services will boost the Internet Telephony Service Providers and will help in lowering the International Long Distance call rates due to mobile VOIP service.

According to Sanjit Chatterjee, Director Global Marketing and Strategy, Reve Systems of Singapore, Mobile phone customers with 3G subscriptions will be able to reduce high cost associated with ILD calls by making VOIP calls for as little as one-eighth to one-tenth of the cost. To make cost effective international calls over mobile VOIP, all a mobile phone user has to do is download the 100KB application ‘iTel’ mobile dialer developed by Reve Systems, the global pioneer in VOIP.
An IDL call to any country abroad cost no less than US$ 0.21 per second to the Indian subscribers but now by using Mobile VOIP service would cost US$ 0.02 per minute or even lower than that.
Reve’s iTel Mobile Dialer Express is the group leader in Mobile VoIP that enables service providers to offer flawless Mobile VoIP experience to end users. Reve is also a member of Symbian Foundation and part of iPhone, Blackberry developer community.
